This past Tuesday, I participated in my final US Amateur Qualifier at Camargo Club in Cincinnati. Finishing tied for 12th with rounds of 71 and 74, I was happy with my performance, but not satisfied. I took away a lot from this day although I was not one of the three qualifiers. The course was playing very difficult, but fair, penalizing errant tee shots and approaches.
After turning with a 34 and birdie on the ninth in my second round, I was ecstatic that I was in contention to qualify and knew that needed another good nine holes to make it. A few bad breaks lead to a back nine 40, keeping me six shots out of qualifying.
After finishing my day at Camargo, I sat down and reflected on my performance. Although I did not qualify I was happy with my play; I stayed focused all day and fought to the finish. A few better shots and a couple more made putts I would have made it to Atlanta. Next time I will be more prepared for the opportunity to succeed, doing so with this experience and hard work and practice in the days to come!
Just keep watching.
